I posted this on Twitter ages ago but someone mentioned it recently so here it is again. It’s a 10-second video of my brain from an fMRI scan, so I guess maybe don’t click if you’re squicked out by people’s insides?
I used to do a lot of medical testing for money (all MRIs and EEGs, nothing invasive or pharmaceutical or involving medical-grade marijuana, although I knew a guy in college who did a week-long THC study. He had to drop out after three days because he was too high to go to Wesleyan.) This was a million years ago and I was dating a grad student who was hooked up with the hospital’s research department; it was easy work for a few extra bucks.
After I’d done a few and got to know the MRI techs (I was a favorite because apparently I don’t twitch much and my images were always sharp) I asked if I could get a copy of a scan, which is how I ended up with this video.
The best part was that most of the studies were run by hot doctors with cute research assistants (mmm, smart ladies.) One of the doctors once told me that my brain is “very well encephalized,” which is probably the best compliment I’ve ever received.
